Dealing with cynical people…

Documented a proposal this evening and witnessed how it visibly changed a strangers life….

Micheal (name changed for confidentiality) thought it was “dumb” to hire a photographer for a proposal and had no problem telling me. To which I replied: you’re not in love are you? Without hesitation he said “nope” (bold and honest….I like him already). I then invited him to “see” what was about to unfold.

FAST FORWARD 10 minutes…(I’ll share the actual proposal story later).

Micheal emerged from the spot where he was hiding….visibly shaken. By the glint of fluorescent light I could clearly see tears streaming down his cheeks. He was speechless for a moment then said: I see (plus a few other words that I can’t remember now). We laughed at the magic of it all and I promised to share the images from tonight as soon as they are ready!

Whether you’re the toughest “gangster” or the most fabulous “fashionista” this experience goes deeper than any social stigma we tack onto people. Remarkable love stories change the world because they speak to something inside that cannot be bound by race, gender, age, religion, region or class. Our basic need to feel connection, trust and empathy with another human being. - Notes for a book I’ll write someday
